Our Family's Cookbook
I grew up with food. I have treasured memories with my grandmother puttering around in the kitchen. During the summer we sat around the kitchen table popping beans, and in the months before Christmas we hand painted chocolates for family and friends. These times, we were family. No matter what else was going on, we were in that moment, a unit. This year my grandmother's absence has been acutely painful, as I would have treasured her advise through the roads that have been traveled. So as I traverse yet another year missing her, I have chosen the best tribute to her I can think of, a cookbook in her honor, filled with family stories and memories of her. The recipes themselves are going to be difficult to get on paper because she carried so many of them in her head, and the only way we can try to get at least some of them down is by memory. This is by far, the most personal project I have chosen to take on, but arguably the most beautiful for me.
